Appetizer Recipes

Guacamole

Single-person version: use 1 avocado.


  • 3 ripe avocados
  • 1 lime
  • \(<1\) teaspoons of minced garlic
  • 1 large pinch of salt
  • (little bit of) cilantro
  • (little bit of) chopped onion
  • 1 pinch of cumin

  • Place peeled avocado into a medium-sized bowl.
  • Cut the lime in half and squeeze both halves into the bowl.
  • Add garlic, salt, cilantro, onion, and cumin.
  • Mash the avocados with a fork and mix everything together evenly.

5-Layer Dip

Add some additional excitement to your guacamole.


  • Refried beans
  • Guacamole
  • Sour cream
  • Taco seasoning
  • Salsa
  • Shredded cheese
  • Chopped Cilantro

  • Mix sour cream with taco seasoning.
  • In a 9-inch dish, layer bottom-to-top:
    • Refried beans
    • Guacamole
    • Taco-spiced sour cream
    • Salsa
  • Top with shredded cheese.
  • Garnish with chopped cilantro.
  • Serve with tortilla chips or cover/refrigerate immediately!

(Almost) Kane’s Sauce

Makes enough for one oven-full of chicken.


  • \(\frac{1}{2}\) cup of mayo
  • \(\frac{1}{4}\) cup of ketchup
  • 1 tsp of worcestershire sauce
  • \(\frac{1}{2}\) tsp of black pepper
  • \(\frac{1}{2}\) tsp of garlic salt OR \(\frac{3}{8}\) tsp of salt and \(\frac{1}{8}\) tsp of garlic powder

  • Mix all the ingredients together.

Garlic Parmesan Roasted Broccoli

Makes great dinner side. Makes 6 servings. Prep 5 min., cook 10 min.


  • 5 Cups (24 oz) of Broccoli Florets
  • 3 Tablespoons of Olive Oil
  • 2 Teaspoons of Minced Garlic
  • Salt and Pepper
  • \(\frac{1}{4}\) Cup of Parmesan
  • Juice of 1 Lemon

  • Preheat oven to 425\(^\circ\) F. Lightly oil a baking sheet or coat with nonstick spray.
  • Place broccoli florets in a single layer onto the prepared baking sheet. Add olive oil and garlic; season with salt and pepper, to taste. Gently toss to combine.
  • Place into oven and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until tender.
  • Serve immediately, sprinkled with Parmesan and lemon juice.

Black Beans

Makes a great dinner side.


  • Avocado oil (enough to cover the bottom of a saucepan)
  • 1 tablespoon of minced garlic
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 can of black beans
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 pinch of cumin
  • 1 pinch of sugar
  • 1 splash of vinegar

  • Cover the bottom of a saucepan with avocado oil.
  • Add the minced garlic and bay leaf; heat over medium-low heat until browned.
  • Drain just a little water from the can of black beans, then add the beans to the pan.
  • Add the salt, cumin, sugar, and a splash of vinegar.
  • Heat until it boils, stirring periodically, then remove from heat.
  • Let it cool down and serve.
